Latitude and Longitude :  12.42 N, 75.73 E

Coorg or Kodagu district in Karnataka state, India, is a beautiful hill station to hang out during your hot summer vacations.  Famously known as the Scotland of India, it has enchanted numerous tourists with its mesmerizing mountain ranges all over with luscious greenery covering the steep slopes of the western ghats.  The tranquil waters of the Cauvery  river flowing through the hilly region created a row of beautiful  waterfalls.  The place is at its best during early monsoons and is a visual treat for the eyes.

Madikeri (at Coorg) is the headquarters of the district Coorg.  Known as the Misty town, it gives a rejuvenating feel to those who visit it.  Talakaveri, from where the Kaveri River originates, Nisargadhama, a man-made island and a favored holiday resort, Iruppa and Abbey Falls, Nagarhole National Park, Dubare Elephant Camp – each of these can be an adventure destination by themselves.

Talakaveri, the birth place of Cauvery river is one place to be visited.  The Brahma temple located on the banks of the river is one of the only two temples in India dedicated to Lord Brahma.  The Madikeri Fort, consisting of a palace, chapel and a prison, overlooks the town and the view of the town from there at night is breathtaking.  The Raja's seat gives an awesome view of the sunset in the evening.

Abbey falls is a splendid waterfall and a great place to enjoy with your friends.  It runs through the dense forest on a steep hill creating a pleasant view.  Iruppu falls is also a beautiful waterfalls similar to Abbey falls.  The young river creates a whole bunch of rapids giving us a chance for river rafting. The Nagarhole national park is a place for enthusiastic wildlife explorers.  It is covered with thick tropical forest, grassy swamps and numerous rivers and streams.  There are plenty of trekking spots spread across the district like Thadiyandamole, Pushpagiri, Brahmagiri and Nishanimotte and are worth going.

Exploring Tirumala...

Tirumala is famous for its beautiful golden temple and the enchanting idol of Lord Venkateswara Swamy.  Getting to see the Lord by going through the long queue line winding across the temple is a wonderful experience.  The prasadams offered after the darshan are very tasty and the most popular among them is the tirumala laddoo(a sweet) which is worth a god's gift.

Besides the temple there are other places to explore.  The SV museum is a place where you can get a glimpse of the culture and tradition of the south.  The place is filled with a variety of idols, beautiful art pieces and bundles of historical knowledge.

The place transforms into a beautiful landscape during early monsoons and early mornings.  The view of the huge forest floor from the hill top meagerly covered with clouds gives a pleasure to the eyes.

There are two small dams, Akasaganga and Papavinasanam dams, not far from the temple.  They are worth seeing along with a few small temples spread across the hill top.  There is even a waterfall known as Chakra Teertham waterfalls.  It is a small but a beautiful waterfall in its own way.  One can have a look at the giant windmill near the Sainik nivas guest house which is one of the many windmills present on the hills.  Near the windmill is a spot where you can get to the edge of a cliff and get a glimpse of the wonderful forest cover of the Tirumala hills
